About

YAFFS & Aleph One

YAFFS is developed and supported by Aleph One Ltd, a small company with decades of experience in operating systems, embedded software and flash storage.

From early microcomputers to embedded flash

Aleph One has been involved with computing in one form or another since the early 1970s. Over time the focus has moved from microcomputers and expansion hardware to Linux and, eventually, embedded systems and flash storage.

YAFFS grew out of this work: a robust, journalling flash file system created to meet the needs of real‑world products using raw NAND flash. It has since been adopted in a wide variety of devices around the world.

Core team

  • Managing Director: Laurie van Someren
  • Chief YAFFS Architect: Charles Manning

Our name

Aleph is the first letter of the Hebrew alphabet and also used by mathematician Georg Cantor to label different sizes of infinity. We chose Aleph One as a reminder that there is always more to understand and room to think bigger.
